Welcome back!

It’s been awhile

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything.  I had good intentions, like all of us, when trying to start something new.  I began this blog thinking I would have plenty of time, as a wife, momma, teacher and coach, boy was I wrong!  God has shown up and showed out in my life in the last few years and I can’t wait to tell you. But one thing at a time.  This is my page for showing God’s love and blessing in my life in all aspects, teaching and otherwise.

Changes

Things went crazy when all the COVID stuff hit and we were shut down for a while.  Like all of you, we navigated things the best we could, my youngest started her senior year virtually, then we resumed school with social distance of course. Got through a very emotional senior year (for me anyway) and navigated all the changes that brought.  Moving her into her apartment with her older sister, (they both play softball for a local D2 school).

Then we became Empty Nesters! 😱 That’s a new adventure that I will save for another day.  Fast forward to now and things have changed dramatically.  My oldest graduated college,(so proud), youngest started college (answered prayer), I took on a new job within my school, and I also started pursuing my master degree as a reading specialist.  Shew, that’s a lot of change in a short time.

Classroom Changes

I wanted to share some things that have been happening with my job.  I stepped out of my comfort zone and took a new job this year, Reading Resource with my school.  It is so different and the first time in 19 years that I have not been in a collaborative classroom.  With that said, I also am mentoring some new teachers in our building.  That has been eye opening for me.  As veteran teachers we forget what it is like to start over, much like my job this year.   I’ve had lots of things to work on for the new teachers as well as myself.  So with all that said, I have some new things to share about what’s helped me in my classroom over the years and this year as well as tips and tricks.

The new teachers have had to work on implementing Words Their Way (copyrighted). If you don’t know about its a spelling and phonics program, I can give you the link to their site.  Our school uses this and it really works.  We are a Title 1 School for background information.  Here is the website https://tinyurl.com/2kba59by  If you haven’t used this ask your administrator about this program.  Trust me it works.  I am not getting paid for saying that, it just really works!

Also, I have in my TPT store a checklist for the WTW system that helps me keep track of where my students are in terms of the word sorts.  Here is the link to my TPT Store and the tracking for the word sorts. Don’t forget to follow me! I will be adding more checklists for the word sorts.

Hello and Welcome!

My name is Bobbie Jones with Chaos in Collaborative. I’m a mom, wife and First Grade Teacher. I live in beautiful Southwest Virginia, near the Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee line.

This is one of many beautiful pictures of our area here in Southwest Virginia.

This is a blog about my first grade classroom adventures, being in a collaborative classroom, managing work, home, and everything in between.

My classroom during math.

I’m so glad you’re here. This is my new adventure into the blogging world. I needed an outlet to release the day’s events and what a perfect place to do it but here. Also, I hope to help teachers with anything they may need while trying to navigate through the collaborative classroom. If you’ve ever been in a collaborative classroom, then there is never a dull moment for sure! On top of just being collaborative, First Grade is a grade where you will hear and see things that you would never think could possibly happen. Trust me, it has and it does! There are days that I will come home and tell my husband the days events and he will always say, “You’re making that up”. In reality I couldn’t make some of the things that happen up if I tried.

I hope to learn and grow on this platform, as being a teacher makes me a lifelong learner. Teaching is my passion, but I am so blessed to be a momma to two wonderful girls. My “babies” are 21 and 16. Excuse me while I go cry…. time went way to fast.

We are a crazy sports family, but I will save that for another time. Thank you for being a part of my little journey.
